Last week we posted a blog featuring the fantastic Mick Wingert, the voice of Po in Nickelodeon’s Kung Fu Panda series. Mick was kind enough to give us some inspiringly honest insight into what it takes to make it in this industry. One of our favorite “nuggets” from last weeks post was a priceless piece of advice Mick shared with us that had been passed on to him from the great Pat Fraley. Mick said, “Pat tells many of his students, including yours truly, to find a champion. He wisely builds his business philosophy upon Proverbs 27:2 “Let another praise you, not your own mouth; a stranger, not your own lips.”
If you’ve spent any amount of time working in this business you know how hard it is to “break in”. One of my best friends once said to me, in regards to the race to success, “it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon.” Our culture has created a microwave mentality that oftentimes misleads us expect results quicker than you can say, “I just got a new agent!” The honest truth is, this is a fiercely competitive industry and some days you’ll find yourself barely hanging by a thread of hope. On those days it’s vital to have someone cheering you on, a champion as Pat says. And thankfully our business is brimming with some of the nicest, most encouraging folks you’ll ever meet!
One of those fantastic folks is Pat Fraley himself! This weekend, our very own Voxy Lady, Diane Merritt will be participating in a workshop with Pat in Atlanta. The last time we checked in, Diane was still on cloud nine with excitement over this opportunity!
In the meantime in between time, remember that although you may not be there yet, you’re closer than you were yesterday!
Lots of Love,
